Do you think it's possible for one to be a Christian without accepting Christ as their Savior?

I have come to discover many "non-Christian" people who are more Christ-like than those who actually claim to be followers of Jesus. For example, Gahndi was a Hindu yet expressed his love for Christ and truly lived a life that resembled the life of Yeshua. But he did not accept Jesus as Lord and Savior like evangelical Christians do, and yet he was more Christian than most fundamentalists who tend to be pro-war, pro-death penalty, pro-materialism, and are usually intolerant towards gays and people from other religions, etc..So if one loves and appreciates Jesus, regardless of their views on salvation, and live a life that resembles the life of Christ, should they not be considered Christians as well?
