How much does it cost to get a long haired cat shaved?

I have a cat with long thick hair, and he does not respond well to being brushed here at home. Now his hair is beginning to get matted near his backside and the summer is almost here. I think professional grooming is the right thing to do, have him shaved. Does anyone have any idea of the cost? (just an idea).
