When were the navajos/hopis established in Arizona?
There is much debate over the Navajo claim of land ownership and presence in the southwest. From my studies, the Navajo "nation", as such, was not recognized as a separate tribe until the 1700s, and they migrated into northeast Arizona at about the same time as the Spanish presence from the south, from other areas east and northeast of here, being pushed southwestward by the "Plains" tribes. Similarly, the Hopi have ancient claims in Arizona, but there is much disagreement as to whether Hopis descended from the Anasazi, Aztecs, Rio Grande Pueblos, or Californian and Nevada tribes. Any insight to these areas of disagreement?
