I got a Martha Stewart cast iron chili pot or dutch oven how do i clean it?

I lost the instructions. I was wiping it out (to get the dust off) with a wet cloth and the cloth turned black! I just lightly washed it with dish soap and water and rinsed it until the water ran clear, did I ruin my pot?
